Search Term Rules & Guidelines
Tips for drafting and optimizing your search terms include the following:
- Stay under the length limit (480 bytes).
- Include synonyms.
- Include spelling variations (no need for misspellings).
- Include abbreviations and alternate names.
- You can use all lower case.
- No need for punctuation, such as: ";", ":", "-".
- Separate words with spaces.
- Do not repeat words within the Search Terms field.
- No need for stop words, such as “a”, “an”, “and”, “by”, “for”, “of”, “the”, “with”, etc.
- Use singular or plural, no need for both.
Violating the following rules may result in your ASIN being suppressed and action against your account:
- Your brand or other brand names
- ASINs
- Profanity
- Temporary statements, such as “new” or “on sale now”
- Subjective claims, such as “best”, “cheapest” or “amazing”
- Abusive or offensive terms
- Uppercase words
Avoid using the following prohibited words:
- Temporary Words: Such as available now, brand new, current, discounted, just launched, last chance, last minute, latest, limited time, new, on sale, this week (month, year), today.
- Subjective Words: Such as amazing, best, cheap, cheapest, effective, fastest, good deal, least, most, popular, trending.
